"In their own words"

JoAnne Carner’s patriotic spirit – her red, white and blue sequined hat spoke volumes all week – was infectious by the weekend. With the competition tied 5-5 heading into the final day of singles matches, the U.S. team had rallied for their captain.

Beth Daniel addressed the team during Saturday night’s dinner, made an emotional speech and then closed by pointing to Carner and saying, “And just remember, it isn’t over ‘til the fat lady holds the Cup.”

Dottie Pepper came to The Greenbrier with one goal in mind – returning The Solheim Cup to American soil. Her determination and focus were etched into her face all week -- and her hair was dyed red just in case anyone was unsure of her intentions.

Pepper was unfazed by all that went on outside the ropes, as evidenced by her going 3-0-0 that week including a blitzing of Catrin Nilsmark, 6&5.

“That’s the best golf I’ve ever seen,” Nilsmark told Pepper.

Pepper’s victory turned into a landslide singles day for the Americans as they would win seven of the next eight matches to post a 13-7 victory.
